Adsorption studies of hexavalent chromium ions on the dead biomass of Cystoseira indica

چکیده

The biosorption of hexavalent chromium ions from aqueous solution was investigated using acid-modified dead biomass the abundantly available brown marine alga Cystoseira indica Karachi coastal area Pakistan. biosorbent characterized by infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. optimum conditions, i.e., dosage, contact time, initial metal ion concentration, pH, temperature, were determined carrying out batch-mode experiments. sorption behavior established Langmuir Freundlich isotherms, which showed that although uptake metals more feasible on a heterogeneous surface, homogeneous surface conditions seemed to exist at same time. thermodynamic parameters ∆G°, ∆H° ∆S° calculated different temperatures ranging 298 318 K demonstrated spontaneous exothermic process under experimental applied.

Adsorption of Lead ions from aqueous solution by the dead biomass of nanoalgae Scenedesmus sp.

In attempts to remove toxic metal lead, distinct types of algae biomass have been scrutinized as alternatives to conventional physicochemical technologies. In this research, the absorption of  Lead by nanoalgae Scenedesmus sp. was studied at concentration of10 to 100 mg/L, pH 3 to 8, temperature 15 to 40 °C and exposure time of 10 to 60 minutes)in a batch culture system. The concentration of Le...

Removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution using canola biomass: Isotherms and kinetics studies

The removing of hexavalent chromium from wastewater or decreasing its chromium (VI) content up to the permitted levels is important due to its non-biodegradation, bioaccumulation, and cancer-causing and toxic effects. In the present study, biosorption of Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions using canola was investigated. The various physicochemical parameters such as pH, initial Cr (VI) ion concentra...

Studies on hexavalent chromium biosorption by chemically-treated biomass of Ecklonia sp.

The biomass of the brown seaweed, Ecklonia sp., is capable of reducing Cr(VI) to Cr(III). However, very little is known about the mechanism of Cr(VI) reduction by the biomass. The aims of the present investigation were to enhance the Cr(VI)-reducing capacity of the biomass using various chemical treatments and to elucidate the mechanisms governing Cr(VI) reduction. Among the various chemical tr...

Selective adsorption and determination of hexavalent chromium ions using graphene oxide modified with amino silanes

Novel adsorbents are described for the preconcentration of chromium(VI). Graphene oxide (GO) was modified with various amino silanes containing one, two, or three nitrogen atoms in the molecule. These include 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), N-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)ethylenediamine (TMSPEDA), and N1-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)diethylenetriamine (TMSPDETA). The resulting GO derivatives were...

removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous media using mediterranean posidonia oceanica biomass : adsorption studies and salt competition investigation

the biosorption of hexavelent chromium from saline solutions by posidonia oceanica, a marinebiomass, was studied as a function of ph, initial chromium (vi) and salt (nacl) concentrations in batchsystem. the sorbent exhibited the maximal chromium (vi) uptake at ph 2 regardless of the presence ofincreasing salt concentration. equilibrium uptake increased with chromium (vi) concentration up to 250...
